Prayer and Meditation

There’s a good reason for the order in which this page is presented. Any activity that involves connecting to our spirit within, and from it to the Spirit and spirit world without, should begin with the emplacement of a positive attitude of mind and acknowledgement of the Power of Good; God; Great Creator; Holy Spirit; which is a protection against everything negative in itself.

Why should we pray? How does this affect the practise of meditation?

I believe that by offering unconditional praise to the Almighty on waking up from sleep, we reinforce our own positivity and happier mind-set for our waking hours. Similarly if we repeat the process on retiring to sleep, our dreams should sweeter be. Prayers for our own and others’ good can be said in between times, specially within the Grace we say before meals.

I find being hungry sharpens the mind to the needs of others, as well as myself, wonderfully well. Here are a couple of prayers that I use regularly that you may like. On waking and retiring I like to use a traditional old hebrew/aramaic prayer that Jesus and his followers would have said – and many of those adherents of the religion into which he was born still repeat.

Translated it affirms: Blessed are you Lord, Lord our Spirit (God) you are One. Blessed are you Lord, King of All Forever. (Baruch atoy adonoy, adonoy elohenu echod, Baruch atoy adanoy, melech le’olam vered (ch sound as in the Scottish ‘loch’). Language used in prayer is actually irrelevant – for the language of Spirit is universal. All thought is a series of symbols that are translated into the different languages that our nationality causes us to learn and divides us, not so on the other side. Take that word ‘blessed’ translated from hebrew.

In the ‘Lord’s Prayer’ it translates as ‘hallowed’ – (as in ‘Hallowed be Thy Name’ when Jesus must have said ‘Blessed is The Name’ – as there was no actual name given to God back then. Nevertheless, the Lord and all the angels and those in Spirit hear and understand us anyway! (People have been killed for using the ‘wrong’ language in which to pray – or read the Bible). For meal times – or any food intake occasions – I always start by thanking God for the blessings I’ve received, then ask for blessings for others.

Only after that, for the food. ‘Dear God, Great Spirit. I thank you for all the blessings I’ve received in my life, and for the love and fellowship of my friends and family (even if we don’t all get on). I thank you for the healing I have received. I ask for healing for all those who are sick and suffering this day; I ask you to comfort the poor and lonely, feed the hungry and house the homeless. I ask you to look after the animals. I thank you for the food I am about to eat. All this in the name of Love and Light and Truth, Amen. (So be it).’ And so we come to our meditation. Before a guided meditation an invocation is an absolute necessity.

A prior prayer silently sent out affirming our good intention will be heard in the Realms of Light by all who are concerned with our spiritual well-being. I say, and recommend to you, to send out this simple statement: “Everything I do is only for good, in the light, in truth and with love.” You can then ask your guides and door-keepers to come close and look after you while you undertake a short journey with Spirit to further your own spiritual and mediumistic development.

You can find such a guided meditation on the next page on this website. This, like the three on the Iconoclast CD, is provided by this group for you should you wish to follow it on your own. It can of course also be used in a circle. I suggest that you read it through a couple of times before making the journey so that you can follow the narrative from memory.
